University of Oxford Boathouse

The new £2.7M boathouse for University of Oxford is a sporting facility designed to form the shell of a boat, allowing water to pass beneath while providing both sheltered as well as interactive space. It replaces the original 19th century boathouse which was destroyed by fire in 1999.

Clear Structures was responsible for the structural design of the substantial glass elements of the building.

The building received a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) South award in 2008.
