To design a curved toughened glass entrance canopy. The original design brief called called for the canopy to be curved in both the horizontal and vertical planes, however due to limitations in the glass manufacturing process we were unble to achieve this. Instead the glass is curved in the vertical plane, whilst being facetted in the horizontal plane.
The curved steel canopy structure is formed from rolled T sections which in turn are restrained back to the main building envelope using M16 grade 8.8bolts and 4No 25mm diameter tie rods. The curved glass panels were then fixed to fabricated mild steel brackets which were welded to the rolled T sections, using countersunk glazing bolts with pig nose fixings.
