Skyline Central

Skyline Central is a luxury residential development of 248 apartments in Manchester city centre. The centrepiece of the design is a six storey steel framed structure clad in toughened glass, known as the Beacon, containing a viewing gallery as part of the health club on the 18th floor.

Logistics and installation were a particular challenge. The entire Beacon section of 11 tonnes of steel was constructed on site, then hoisted from ground level using a 500 tonne capacity mobile crane. To carry out the installation of the glass safely onto the under hanging, sloping face of the tower, a special balance/intrusion beam was used.

Clear Structures worked closely with client Solaglas on the design of the Beacon.
